The path to an Embodied Voice

For a long time, I didn’t relate to my own voice as a true means of expression.

Even as a professional opera singer, I had learned how to use it, shape it, and control it—but not necessarily how to let it carry what I was actually feeling. Like many women, I had learned to contain my emotions, to stay composed, to adapt. And without really noticing it, that way of being began to take over my body, in my breath, and my voice.

After the death of my mother, something shifted. I could feel much more clearly the impact that holding everything in was having—not only emotionally, but physically. There was grief, of course, but also a growing awareness that my voice had never really been given full permission to express what was there.

It was through vocal exploration—outside of performance, outside of technique—that I began to experience something different. As I allowed sound to emerge more freely, I discovered textures, sensations, and emotional depth that had never been accessible to me before. More than anything, I began to feel a deeper connection to myself, and a greater capacity to stay present with what I was experiencing.

This work comes directly from that process.

Who this Work is For

This work is for anyone who feels that there is more inside them than they are currently able to express.

Many of the people drawn to this work feel, in one way or another, that something is held back.

It might show up as difficulty speaking up in relationships or at work, as a fear of being heard, or as a more subtle sense that what you have to say isn’t fully coming through. Sometimes it is experienced more physically, as tension in the throat, shallow breathing, or a voice that feels restricted or disconnected.

Very often, this is not simply about confidence. It is about patterns that have been learned over time—ways of adapting, of staying safe, of managing emotions by keeping them contained.

There is also a growing body of research suggesting that long-term emotional suppression can have real effects on the body and the nervous system. A British study from the 1970s, for example, identified extreme suppression of anger as one of the most common characteristics among breast cancer patients. This and many other studies like it points to something important: when emotions are consistently held back, the body has to carry that load.

What we begin to do here is not to “release everything” all at once, but to develop a different relationship to what you feel.

To be able to stay present a little longer.
To recognize your own experience without immediately minimizing or overriding it.
And, gradually, to allow your voice to become part of that process.

Over time, this can lead to a greater sense of ease in expression, a reduction in internal tension, and a feeling of being more grounded and more fully yourself. It often has a ripple effect beyond the sessions—into conversations, relationships, and the way you move through your daily life.

How I work

In our sessions, we use breath, gentle movement, and voice as ways to return to the body and to what is already there. Rather than trying to change or control your emotional state, we begin by building awareness and creating enough safety for you to stay in contact with your experience.

From there, the voice becomes a tool—not for performance, but for expression. A way to give form to sensations, emotions, or impulses that often remain unspoken or held inside.

We begin with structured exercises, so that you can ground into your body, increase your awareness and vocal vocabulary and most of all - so that your nervous system has something to rely on. Gradually, as more trust develops, there is space for exploration and improvisation, allowing your voice to move in a way that is more intuitive and less controlled.

This are not normal voice lessons - the goal is not performance but rather expression. If you dream of singing or speaking in public, we will work with specific source material to increase your confidence and ease of expression.
